August might not seem like apple season. While, soaring temperatures don’t exactly remind us of biting into the crisp fruit we associate with fall, apples are ripening up all over the city. After a visit to Carroll Park with orchard steward Regina, we discovered many trees bearing huge amounts of ripe fruit. Many of our favorites, such as the Roxbury Russet are ready to harvest.
With that we are pleased to announce our first apple harvest of the year this coming Thursday, August 17th from 4pm to 7pm at Carroll Park! We will be gathering at the Pigtown farmers market and walking over to the orchard.
We are excited to share the bounty with BOP volunteers and neighbors. We are especially excited to see folks try new varieties of apples and for the opportunity to bring fresh and hyper-local apples to the Paul’s Place food pantry.
