Three years ago, we adopted an abandoned pear orchard of almost 100 pear trees in northern Baltimore County. The orchard had been neglected for several years and the trees were looking pretty sad. But after two years of pruning, mulching, stripping vines and offering a bunch of TLC, the pear orchard is coming back. It still needs work; some trees didn’t make it; and some trees are not yet adorned with a full canopy of fruit. But several are looking good – and we will be harvesting enough pears to supply a share to our 10 CSA members plus a bumper crop for our distribution partners to give away. Pear harvest starts in about two weeks – check out out Meet Up page for all the information about where and when we will be harvesting. See you in the orchard!
